AGCI Chile Government Scholarship - The Real Insider Guide

Chilean Agency for International Development Cooperation (AGCID) (Government)  ·  Updated June 13, 2026

While 'Becas Chile' sends Chileans abroad, the AGCID (Chilean Agency for International Development Cooperation) scholarship does the exact opposite. It is a fully funded South-South cooperation program designed to bring mid-career professionals from Latin America, the Caribbean, and specific African nations to study Master's degrees in Chile.

Why You Should Apply

Chile boasts some of the highest-ranked universities in Latin America (like Pontificia Universidad Católica and Universidad de Chile), offering an incredibly stable and sophisticated academic environment. The AGCID scholarship is a comprehensive full ride. It pays your entire Master's degree tuition directly to the university.

It provides a monthly living stipend of approximately 600,000 CLP (which is sufficient for a student lifestyle in Santiago and quite comfortable in regional cities like Concepción or Valdivia). It covers your round-trip international airfare, provides a health insurance policy, a book allowance, and even a small grant to help you print and bind your final thesis. If you are a public servant or academic in your home country, this is an unbeatable opportunity to upskill in a leading regional economy.

Application Process

You must secure admission to a Chilean Master's program first. AGCID publishes an 'Anexo 1' list of eligible, accredited Master's programs across various Chilean universities. You apply directly to the university program.

Once you have your unconditional acceptance letter, you assemble your AGCID dossier. Critically, you do NOT send your application to Chile. You must submit it physically to the designated 'Focal Point' in your home country—usually your Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Planning, or the local Chilean Embassy.

The Focal Point pre-selects candidates and sends the final shortlist to Santiago.

How to Win This Scholarship

AGCID is a development agency, not a pure academic foundation. They favor applicants who work in the public sector, academia, or high-impact NGOs. Your motivation letter must clearly answer: How will your Master's degree in Chile directly solve a public policy or developmental issue in your home country?

Furthermore, your application must be fully endorsed by your employer (usually requiring a signed letter granting you leave of absence and promising a position upon your return). High Spanish proficiency is non-negotiable; all programs are taught in rapid, academic Spanish.

Benefits After Completing Study

Like most development scholarships, there is a strict return requirement. You must return to your home country immediately upon graduation to apply your newly acquired skills in your professional sector. Alumni form a strong network of policymakers across Latin America.

The 600,000 CLP stipend is meant for one person. It is strictly against the rules to bring dependents unless you have massive independent savings, as AGCID provides zero financial or visa support for spouses or children. The scholarship duration is strictly capped at 24 months.

MBAs, clinical medical specializations, and purely distance-learning degrees are entirely excluded from funding. The bureaucratic process is heavy; you must undergo detailed medical examinations to prove your health status before the scholarship is finalized.
