AUIP Scholarships - The Real Insider Guide

Asociación Universitaria Iberoamericana de Postgrado (AUIP) (University)  ·  Updated June 13, 2026

The Ibero-American University Association for Postgraduate Studies (AUIP) is not a single scholarship. It is a massive network of universities across Latin America and Spain. The 'AUIP Scholarship' actually refers to dozens of specific, localized agreements between the AUIP and partner universities (mostly regional Spanish universities like the University of Valencia, Seville, or Salamanca).

Why You Should Apply

If you are a student or professor at a Latin American university that is a member of the AUIP network, this is your fastest route to a Master's degree in Spain. The typical AUIP Master's scholarship provides a full tuition waiver for 60 ECTS credits at the Spanish host university, plus a cash endowment (ranging from €1,200 to €4,500 depending on the specific region in Spain) intended to cover your flight and initial settling costs. They also offer 'Mobility Grants' which are essentially travel vouchers for PhD students to spend a few months researching in Spain.

Application Process

You do not just click 'apply' to AUIP generally. You must go to the 'Becas' section of the auip.org website and find the specific call (e.g., 'Becas AUIP - Universidad de Sevilla 2026'). You must register on the AUIP portal, upload your CV, passport, transcripts, and most importantly, a letter of endorsement from the rector or high-ranking official at your home university proving your institution is an active, dues-paying AUIP member.

How to Win This Scholarship

The absolute biggest mistake applicants make is ignoring the institutional connection. Your home university MUST be an active AUIP member. If they haven't paid their annual AUIP dues, your application is automatically trashed.

Get an endorsement letter from your Dean or Rector early. Secondly, target universities in regions like Andalusia or Castilla y León where living costs are low; a €3,000 cash grant goes much further in Salamanca than it does in Madrid or Barcelona.

Benefits After Completing Study

Graduating with an official Spanish Master's degree gives you automatic access to the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) framework, making it vastly easier to pursue a PhD anywhere in Europe subsequently.

The cash grant is almost never paid to you before you travel. You must pay for your own flight to Spain, secure an apartment, open a Spanish bank account, and formally enroll before the university wire-transfers the AUIP grant to you. You must have at least €2,000 of your own savings to survive the first 6 weeks.
