You must research the specific labs and professors at ETH within your target department, identify the cutting edge of their current research, and propose a project that pushes that boundary further. Your proposal must demonstrate deep theoretical knowledge, a realistic methodology, and extreme ambition.

During the interview, do not expect friendly chat; expect a highly technical, rigorous academic defense of your proposal. You must know your subject inside and out. Ensure your recommendation letters are from professors who can specifically attest to your research capabilities and rank you against your peers.
