Central Europe is rapidly becoming a major hub for high-quality, affordable English-taught higher education. Cities like Prague, Warsaw, and Budapest boast massive international student populations and booming tech sectors. If you are a citizen of a targeted country (e.g., Ukraine, Serbia, Georgia, or one of the V4 countries yourself), this scholarship provides a straightforward financial injection to study in a neighboring nation.

The scholarship pays out 3,000 euros per semester directly to you. Because the cost of living in the V4 countries is significantly lower than in Western Europe, this 600-euro-per-month equivalent covers the vast majority of student housing and basic living expenses. Furthermore, the fund pays a separate lump sum directly to your host institution (usually 1,500 euros per semester) to help offset your tuition or research costs.

It is a highly flexible grant that empowers you to build professional networks in some of Europe's fastest-growing economies.

The fundamental rule of the Visegrad Scholarship is that you cannot study in your country of citizenship. A Polish citizen must study in Czechia, Slovakia, or Hungary, for example. The application portal opens in early spring, with a strict mid-April deadline.

You must apply independently to your chosen host university and secure either formal admission or a preliminary 'Letter of Acceptance' before the Visegrad deadline. The application requires your transcripts (you must have completed at least 4 semesters of university study), an ID document, and a detailed study/research project plan. For PhD applicants, securing a willing supervisor at the host university is the absolute bottleneck.

The International Visegrad Fund evaluates your application based on the quality of your proposed study/research plan and its relevance to regional cooperation. Your motivation letter must not be a generic 'I want to experience a new culture.' You must explicitly link your studies to cross-border issues affecting Central Europe—for example, energy security, democratic transitions, regional economic supply chains, or shared historical narratives. You must prove why studying in that specific host country is necessary for your academic development.

If you are applying from the Western Balkans or Eastern Partnership countries, framing your study plan around European integration and institutional capacity building is highly effective.

Graduating with a degree from a V4 university provides direct access to the European labor market. Because multinational corporations (like IBM, Google, and major automotive firms) have established massive regional hubs in Poland, Czechia, and Hungary, graduates with regional expertise and cross-cultural experience are highly sought after.
