Busitema University

Busitema University, situated in Uganda’s Busia region and formally known as the Uganda Institute of Technology (UIT), has established itself as an institution deeply committed to nurturing excellence in applied sciences and engineering focused on agricultural development and sustainable practices within Africa. Founded in 2007, it initially served as a non-profit educational entity, evolving into a public-private partnership designed to meet the unique needs of Uganda's agriculture sector and broader national ambitions. It boasts a comprehensive range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs centered on fields that directly enhance agricultural productivity across diverse regions.

The university’s core mission is inextricably linked with promoting sustainable food systems, fostering innovative agricultural technologies, and bolstering rural livelihoods through rigorous academic training and practical experience. A significant portion of the university's resources is directed toward research initiatives aimed at improving crop yields, livestock management, soil health, climate resilient farming, water conservation techniques and alternative livelihoods for farmers in Uganda and neighboring regions. Notably, it has the highest degree of graduate studies offered in Uganda, with a substantial number of graduates pursuing advanced degrees across many fields pertinent to agriculture, engineering, and related scientific domains.
