The University Centre in Svalbard (UNIS) represents a cornerstone of Arctic Science and Global Challenges research within Norway – a non-profit, publicly funded institution located at Longyearbyen, nestled amidst the remote landscapes of Svalbard archipelago. Established in 1993 under the auspices of the Norwegian University of Knowledge, UNIS has rapidly grown to become an internationally recognized hub for scientific exploration, fostering collaboration and advancing knowledge across diverse fields. The center’s unique geographic location—a high-latitude environment—offers unparalleled opportunities to investigate Arctic processes with a global focus, drawing upon Norway's commitment to sustainable development, environmental protection, and the advancement of societal benefit through research, education and innovation. UNIS boasts a diverse student body comprising approximately 2,000 bachelor and master students from across Europe, North America, and Asia. UNIS's research portfolio spans significant areas of scientific inquiry.
